My two month anniversary of launching my blog is in about a week. Woohoo! In the blogger world I’m a newborn…and I feel like it! There’s constantly something new to learn and work on.
It’s HARD work. You wouldn’t believe the detail that goes into creating a website from scratch, adding content, editing images, marketing, etc. Not to mention the techy stuff that I’m oh-so-not-so-good at. Then there’s the vulnerability that comes with sharing my thoughts and heart with you guys. Phew!
It’s been a whirlwind, but also incredibly fun. I have such a long way to go and I’m super thankful for the love and support I’ve received from my friends, family, and followers. So, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news with you… (I can’t believe I’m about to type this…)
I was nominated for The Blogger Recognition Award.
Nominations for this award are given to bloggers as a way of honoring the dedication they put toward creating their blog and building their brand.
Thank you so much to Elna from Twins Mommy for choosing Oh Yellow to be recognized for this award. It means the world to be set apart by another blogger who understands how much heart and soul goes into this work. Thank you!
When nominated, the blogger:
- Writes a post announcing their nomination
- Gives a brief story of how and why they started blogging
- Gives two pieces of advice for new bloggers
- Thanks who nominated them and links back to their blog
- Then, selects and notifies 15 other blogs they’d like to nominate as well
How Oh Yellow Began
I’ve secretly been dreaming of starting a blog for years. I have a degree in Journalism and I’ve loved writing for…well, ever. The idea seemed really overwhelming. I also have this weird aversion to putting myself out there online (hence my past lack of social media presence.)
Early this year, my husband made a bold decision for our family. He’s pursuing becoming a Physician Assistant, meaning 2-3 more years of school. I’m incredibly proud of him. This means we’ll need income during those years. My true passion is being a Stay-at-Home Mom, so as a long-term plan to raise my babies full-time I finally dusted off my desire to write from home. I said it out loud. That was a BIG step for me.
From there, things snowballed. In a good way. We researched like crazy what it would take to create a successful blog in the next year. It has taken some investment and a ton of time, frustration, tears and hard work, but Oh Yellow was born.
I want to share with other new moms that they are not alone in some of the challenges they’re facing. This blog exists to encourage mothers to be real and remind them that it’s ok to not have it together. It’s also a place to share tips and fun ideas, which all mamas need from time to time. I get to share about the crazy adventure of becoming a mom and hopefully point others toward Jesus while doing it. That’s why I’m here. That’s why you’re reading this.
Two Bits of Advice for New Bloggers
1. Have Fun.
I promise this is better advice than it sounds like. My first month or so of blogging was behind-the-scenes work. I hadn’t launched yet and I had nooo idea what I was doing. It seemed like every day was a new problem to conquer. Ugh. But once I launched my blog and started seeing people respond to my content, I was so uplifted! People actually care what we have to say. We just have to be bold enough to share it. Since then, I’ve had a blast. It’s still very hard, but I’m so in love with building a sweet place online for mamas to connect. It’s worth every struggle and it’s so life-giving for me. So enJOY yourself!
2. Go for it.
Secondly, just start. If blogging is something you’ve been contemplating, don’t wait. Do it. Get started! There are a million details you can begin unveiling for yourself now. You can think it over for years or you can just make it happen. The reward is in the doing. So do it! If you have already started, then my advice is still the same. Go for the next thing. Write that post, start that product, do that research. Do the next thing. We will always be more motivated by action. Waiting can turn into forever, or you can jump and enjoy the wild ride as its happening.
Side note: If you’re interested in starting a blog, I’d love love love to help! I have a whole post on how I got started blogging for you to check out.
Yay for blogging!
